HYMN - ROCK OF AGES
TEXT: EXODUS 17:1-6; 33:17-23; PSALMS 78:35; ACTS 4:12
Memory Verse: For I do not want you to be ignorant of the fact, brothers, that our forefathers were all under the cloud and that they all passed through the sea… they all ate the same spiritual food and drank the same spiritual drink; for they drank from the spiritual rock that accompanied them and that rock was Christ. (I Corinthians 10:1, 3, 4)
This fervent plea for Christ our eternal rock to grant salvation through His sacrifice and to be a place of refuge for the believer is one of the most popular hymns ever written. With strong emotional impact, it proclaims Christ’s atonement on the cross to be the only means of salvation, making man’s tears and efforts to justify himself of no avail. Also it urges us to find consolation and security in Christ our rock- even at the time of death.
Augustus Toplady’s strong and passionate lines were actually written to refute some of the teachings of John and Charles Wesley during a bitter controversy with them concerning Arminianism (which stresses man’s free will) versus John Calvin’s doctrine of election. “Rock of Ages” was the climax to an article that Toplady wrote in The Gospel Magazine in 1776, in which he supported the doctrine of election by arguing that just as England could never pay her national debt, so man through his own efforts could never satisfy the eternal justice of a holy God. Despite the belligerent intent of this text, God has preserved this hymn for more than 200 years to bring blessing to both Arminian and Calvinistic believers around the world.
At the age of 16, as he sat in a barn and listed to the preaching of an uneducated man, Toplady was dramatically converted. Later, he became a powerful and respected minister of the Anglican Church. While he was the busy pastor of several churches in England. Augustus Toplady wrote many hymn texts, but few have survived. “Rock of Ages” is the one for which he is known today.
Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee; let the water and the blood, from Thy wounded side which flowed, be of sin the double cure, save from wrath and make me pure.
Could my tears forever flow, could my zeal no languor know, these for sin could not atone – Thou must save and Thou alone: In my hand no price I bring; simply to Thy cross I cling.
While I draw this fleeting breath, when my eyes shall close in death, when I rise to worlds unknown and behold Thee on Thy throne, Rock of Ages, cleft for me, let me hide myself in Thee.
Action Point: Give sincere praise to Christ our “Rock of Ages” for His great gift of salvation and for His provision of a place of refuge for us, even unto death.

THE PLACE OF GLORY
HYMN - O SACRED HEAD, NOW WOUNDED
O sacred Head, now wounded, with grief and shame weighed down, now scornfully surrounded with thorns Thy only crown; how art Thou pale with anguish, with sore abuse and scorn! How does that visage languish which once was bright as morn!
What language shall I borrow to thank Thee, dearest Friend, for this Thy dying sorrow, Thy pity without end? O make me Thine forever! And, should I fainting be, Lord, let me never outlive my love to Thee!

TRUE GREATNESS (PART 3)
APRIL 23RD
TEXT: 1 Timothy 6:6-10 King James Version (KJV)
6. But godliness with contentment is great gain.
7. For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out.
8. And having food and raiment let us be therewith content.
9. But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition.
10. For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.
TEXT: Psalm 32:6-8 Kings James Version (KJV)
6. For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.
7. Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
8. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
As we bring this particular study to an end, it is important that we call our attention to the fact that the understanding of greatness differs from one place to the other. There are people who are great in various aspects of life but that does not guarantee true greatness.
Many who have been celebrated as great men and women suddenly loose their greatness once they are found to be guilty of some crime. Many who were ones celebrated as great, are presently languishing in jail. Others made so much money to attained some form of greatness by cheating, but once they were discovered, all that was left is shame and disgrace.
You can re-write your story, no matter what your situation is right now. This has nothing to do with your father’s name or your family background. Jesus is the game changer.
A true and intimate relationship with Jesus makes all the difference. Your parents do not have to be wealthy for you to achieve your dreams and visions. Go after God with all your heart and you will begin to see the unfolding of a greater glory.
The secret of true greatness in a life is in knowing what to do, when to do it and how to get it done. You can’t walk with God and fail if you are serious with Him. He said, “I will show the way you should go…”
God wants to glorify His name through your life, just stay true to Him. God is at work for your good. Stay focused so you can recognise your divine visitation. Shalom!

TRUE GREATNESS (PART 2)
APRIL 22ND
1 Timothy 6:6-10 King James Version (KJV)
Those who think the abundance of money makes one great try to get as much money as they can by all means, only to end up miserable. Let’s go back to our text for today and take a good look at verses 9 and 10 carefully. It is important to work diligently towards greatness but it is wrong to crave to be rich. We should rather crave after God and as we walk with him,He will reward us with true greatness.
Remember, Jesus told us to seek first the kingdom of God and it’s righteousness… He then said, All these things shall be added unto us. Verse 9 tells us that those who crave to be rich fall into temptation and pierce themselves with many sorrows.
Many misquote the scripture by saying, Money is the root of all evil. But what my Bible says is, “The love of money is the root of all evil”. Why is the love of money the root of all evil? This is it.
When you love something, you devote your heart and your life to it, which is a form of worship. Therefore, if you love money, you worship money and whatever you worship has great influence over your life.
Jesus said, you cannot serve God and mammon, because you will love one and hate the other. This is why we must take to the advice in verse 6 of our scripture which says, “ But godliness with contentment is great gain”. Look at it from the amplified version and you will be amazed what you will find. The love of money has led to enmity between brothers. The love of money has destroyed many family relationships. The love of money has lead to man untimely death. And Jesus once asked “What shall it profit a man if he gains the whole world and looses his soul”
Beloved, true greatness springs from a true relationship with Jesus. Go after Jesus with all your heart and your life will never be the same again. Shalom!

TRUE GREATNESS (PART 1)
APRIL 21ST
TEXT: Psalm 32:6-8 Kings James Version (KJV)
6. For this shall every one that is godly pray unto thee in a time when thou mayest be found: surely in the floods of great waters they shall not come nigh unto him.
7. Thou art my hiding place; thou shalt preserve me from trouble; thou shalt compass me about with songs of deliverance. Selah.
8. I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.
Everyone you see today who is at one level of greatness or the other had a turning point in their lives. Yours’ can also be a story that will catch the attention of many if you will let the Lord Jesus take the lead in your life. The secret to your life’s success is hidden in Christ Jesus. But until you come into an intimate relationship with Him, you will continually struggle to attain true greatness. Let’s take some time to consider verse 8 of our text again.
“I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with my eye.”
From this passage, it is obvious that you can only arrive at true greatness by the divine instructions of the Lord. Common sense is good but you cannot rely on just common sense and be truly great. Common sense is that which is common to all and would at best produce common results, but only those who obey divine instructions arrive at true greatness.
The Lord also said, “I will teach thee in the way which thou shalt go:” So many people have stepped out with great potentials and resources only to end up a failure. They had what they needed to succeed but they missed “the way” to their desired destination. The way is not a geographical location, neither can it be found by a compass or your GPS. The way is a person. Jesus say I am the way…
It is in the place of your personal relationship with Jesus that you are able to know the way to true greatness. The one you learn from determines the limit of your greatness. You cannot be taught by the Almighty and become a nonentity. Except you have your face before the Lord, you cannot be guided by his eye.
Seek His face every day and He will show you the strategies to true greatness.
May the grace and glory of the Lord decorate your life today in Jesus name.

RECOGNIZING YOUR DAY OF VISITATION (PART 2)

RECOGNIZING YOUR DAY OF VISITATION (PART 1)
APRIL 19TH
TEXT: 2 Kings 2:1-3, 9-12 King James Version (KJV)
1. And it came to pass, when the LORD would take up Elijah into heaven by a whirlwind, that Elijah went with Elisha from Gilgal.
2. And Elijah said unto Elisha, Tarry here, I pray thee; for the LORD hath sent me to Bethel. And Elisha said unto him, As the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, I will not leave thee. So they went down to Bethel.
3. And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the LORD will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.
9. And it came to pass, when they were gone over, that Elijah said unto Elisha, Ask what I shall do for thee, before I be taken away from thee. And Elisha said, I pray thee, let a double portion of thy spirit be upon me.
10. And he said, Thou hast asked a hard thing: nevertheless, if thou see me when I am taken from thee, it shall be so unto thee; but if not, it shall not be so.
11. And it came to pass, as they still went on, and talked, that, behold, there appeared a chariot of fire, and horses of fire, and parted them both asunder; and Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven.
12. And Elisha saw it, and he cried, My father, my father, the chariot of Israel, and the horsemen thereof. And he saw him no more: and he took hold of his own clothes, and rent them in two pieces.
Not many of us know how to recognize our moment of change or visitation. When Jesus came out of Jerusalem, He looked at it and wept, because He saw that the people knew not the day of their visitation. He was standing there as the messiah they were waiting for but they could not recognise him because they were blinded by religious traditions and activities. Don't miss your moment of visitation.
The greatest hindrance to anyone recognising a moment of divine visitation is distractions. Too many of us allow ourselves to be distracted from the purpose of God. If you must become what the Lord want you to be, then you must keep your eyes on Jesus. Keep your eyes on Him and you will be amazed the glory that will follow.
When Elisha became conscious of the fact that his spiritual father, Elijah will be taken away into heaven by a divine visitation that particular day,he refused to be distracted by anybody. The sons of the prophets at different points tried to distract him from his focus but he simply told them, “Hold your peace”. In other words, please don’t distract me. Once Elisha was able to overcome those distractions, as he was alone with Elijah, Elijah finally asked him, What do you want me to do for you before I am taken away? That was when Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah's spirit to be upon him.
Only those who stay focused to the end are able to walk in the full glory of their pursuit. If you will stay focused on Jesus like the way Elisha stayed his focus on Elijah, you will see the salvation and the glory of the Lord. It is not difficult to live a victorious christian life, just stay focused on Jesus.
HOLD ON TO YOUR FAITH
APRIL 18TH
TEXT: Numbers 23:19 King James Version (KJV)
19. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
The scriptures says, the word of God is ye and Amen. That tells us that whenever God speaks, it is as good as done. God has promised us divine providence and evidence and yours will not be missing in the name of Jesus. Hold on to whatever God has said to you, run with it, stand on it and decree it until you see it become real. His word will never return to Him void, it will accomplish the purpose for which it is sent and it will prosper in it.
If there is any time to accomplish your vision, goals and dreams. It is now, circumstances and situations may tell you to forget them, but do not consider doing so. Your situation may not have changed for the better, but, today, it is being settled.
Do not look at the wind or the cloud or the wave, go ahead and sow where you need to sow your seed and the harvest will come.
This is the time to plough the field, this is the time to go the distance. Take the step of faith and you will have your results. The man who refuse to take the step of faith will never see the results of faith.
God is waiting for you to take that step and when you do, He will surprise you. Thank the Lord for His word spoken into your life and ask Him to seal it up. There shall be no more delays in Jesus name, your breakthrough is coming to you now in Jesus name. Shalom!

HYMN - THE OLD RUGGED CROSS.
APRIL 17TH.
TEXT: ISAIAH 53:3-12; JOHN19: 17-25; ROMANS 5:6-11; HEBREWS 9:27, 28
Memory Verse: He himself bore our sins in His body on the tree, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by His wounds you have been healed. (1 Peter 2:15).
The author and composer of this beloved hymn, George Bennard, began his Christian ministry in the ranks of the Salvation Army. Eight years later he was ordained by the Methodist Episcopal Church, where his devoted ministry as an evangelist was highly esteemed for many years. One time, after returning to his home in Albion, Michigan, Bennard passed through a particular trying experience, one that caused him to reflect seriously about the significance of the cross and what the apostle Paul meant when he spoke of entering into the fellowship of Christ’s sufferings(Philippians 3:10). George Bennard began to spend long hours in study, prayer, and meditation until one day he could say: I saw the Christ of the cross as if I were seeing John 3:16 leave the printed page, take form and act out the meaning of redemption. The more I contemplated these truths the more convinced I became that the cross was far more than just a religious symbol but rather the very heart of the gospel. During these days of spiritual struggle, the theme for “The Old Rugged Cross” began to formulate itself in Bennard’s mind. But an inner voice seemed to keep telling him to“wait”. Finally, however, after returning to Michigan, he began to concentrate anew on his project. This time the words and melody began to flow easily from his heart. Shortly thereafter, Bennard sent a manuscript copy to Charles Gabriel, one of the leading gospel hymn writers of that time. Gabriel’s prophetic words, “You will certainly hear from this song, Mr. Bennard,” were soon realized as the hymn became one of the most widely published songs, either sacred or secular, throughout America. On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross, the emblem of suff’ring and shame; and I love that old cross where the dearest and best for a world of lost sinners was slain. O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world, has a wondrous attraction for me; for the dear Lamb of God left His glory above to bear it to dark Calvary. To the old rugged cross I will ever be true, its shame and reproach gladly bear, then He’ll call me some day to my home far away, where His glory forever I”ll share.
Chorus: So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross, till my trophies at last I lay down; I will cling to the old rugged cross, and exchange it someday for a crown.
ACTION POINT: Ponder the significance of Christ‘s cross in your salvation. Sing this musical testimony - TAKEN FROM “AMAZING GRACE; 366 INSPIRING HYMN STORIES FOR DAILY DEVOTION"

THE POWER OF DIVINE AUTHORITY
APRIL 16TH
TEXT: 2 Kings 1:1-10 King James Version (KJV)
1. Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.
2. And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.
3. But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?
4. Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.
5. And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back?
6. And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.
7. And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words?
8. And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.
9. Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.
10. And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.
2 Kings 1:13-15 King James Version (KJV)
13. And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.
14. Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight.
15. And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.
When a man has a close walk with God, people begin to see him as the oracle of God. When he speaks, it is obvious he has the backing of God.
One character in the Bible who had such command and authority was the prophet Elijah. He was so confident as the servant of God because of his close walk with Him. When he needed to speak many of the time, he did not have to say “thus says the Lord,” instead he often said “by my word,” this shows how united he was with the will of God.
Some people in order to sound spiritual have to mention God’s name whenever they speak. But if you are intimate with God, when you speak, people can tell you have a close relationship with Him.
When King Ahaziah sent his captain of fifty with his fifty men to forcefully arrest Elijah, the captain was not careful with Elijah, he made a mistake to carry out the order without respect for God’s servant. Then Elijah called the fire of God upon him and his fifty and they were consumed.
Be careful how you obey an order to disrespect a true man of God. He did not have to ask God to release fire from above, he just called it.
There are people who do not need to speak in tongues or dance acrobatics before God manifests His power in honour of their words. Don’t take them for granted, you may be playing with fire.
Know that when certain persons speak under certain conditions, their words automatically become decrees in the realm of the spirit. Such persons don’t joke with words because they know the God they serve. They are the apple of His eye.
Don’t be fooled by their short comings or struggles, be wise and learn from the wise captain of fifty who was wise to speak with much wisdom pleading. May you not be destroyed by the words of your mouth.

KEEP YOUR TRUST IN GOD
APRIL 15TH
TEXT: Numbers 23:19 - 23 King James Version (KJV)
19. God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?
20. Behold, I have received commandment to bless: and he hath blessed; and I cannot reverse it.
21. He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen perverseness in Israel: the LORD his God is with him, and the shout of a king is among them.
22. God brought them out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of an unicorn.
23. Surely there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel: according to this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath God wrought!
Beloved, there is security in God, He is the only one who will not fail you. He is the only one you can always rely on. When people scorn at you, they want you to bow down your head in shame but when God extends His divine providence to you, He becomes your glory and the lifter of your head.
The Lord will lift up your head this season in Jesus name. He will also defend you from the arrows released from the mouth of the wicked. They will not be able to make you loose hope because the Lord will help you.
Take your eyes off whatever has dampened your faith and enthusiasm, and keep looking unto Jesus. Do not lean on man for they will cause you to fall. Keep leaning on God’s promises for he cannot fail you. He is the only one who can bring to pass whatever you are believing Him for, so keep your eyes on Him.
So many who are oppressed have their destinies tied down by the devil. They want to go somewhere in life but they have not been able to make any headway. The only way to overcome the enemy is to receive the help of God.
This season, God will give you power and strength to be stronger than your oppressors. His divine providence will address whatever is out of place in your destiny and cause you to overcome in Jesus name. God bless you.

DIVINE DECREES FOR YOUR LIFTING
APRIL 14TH
TEXT: Numbers 23: 19-23 KING JAMES VERSION (KJV)
The Lord has sent me to bless you today and I want you to pay careful attention because the Lord is ready to frustrate every curse against your life and destiny . By my authority as the servant of the Lord, this is my prayer for you today;
May the Lord remember you in His mercy and forgive everyone of your sins.
May He grant you a listening ear and reject every evil decree against you.
May the blood of Jesus speak and atone for you today and always.
May the Lord give you complete testimony this season in Jesus name. Whatever has been standing in your way as a formidable force is here and now frustrated, destroyed as it crumbles in the name of Jesus.
May you enter into your days of glory from this moment in Jesus name. Whatever help you need to enter into your destiny is released now in Jesus name.
May the Lord look to you in favour and release His glory upon your life in Jesus name.
May He give an answer to every scorning you have received in Jesus name.
May you begin to see evidences to confirm that He is your glory and the lifter up of your head.
May He hear your cry from His holy hill and clothe you with His presence and glory.
Praise Him for He is glorious and awesome, worthy of all the praise, honor and glory. Thank Him for whatever you are trusting Him for. Thank Him by faith for turning things around in your favor. Believe, receive and it shall be well with you in Jesus name.
He will make nonsense every plan of the evil one, and break off every hold of the enemy over you. His words over your life will come to pass as He will glorify His name.
The Lord says that you should not put your eyes or expectation on any man, for that will hinder what He wants to do in your life.
Some have reduced the magnitude of God’s glory meant for their lives by fixing their eyes on man. Take your eyes off man and look unto Jesus for He is the author and finisher of your faith.
God bless you.
