UNDERSTANDING SCRIPTURAL PRINCIPLES ON GIVING (PART 2)

MAY 6TH

TEXT: Matthew 6:1-4 King James Version (KJV)
1.  Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen of them: otherwise ye have no reward of your Father which is in heaven.
2.  Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
3.  But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth:
4.  That thine alms may be in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret himself shall reward thee openly.

Today as we continue our study on understanding scriptural principles on giving, I want to start by a profound quote from Bishop David Oyedepo, who said, “Prosperity does not answer to prayer and fasting but to the principle of giving.” The first time I heard these words I was wondering if this was not too absolute a statement, but then as I searched the scriptures myself, it became clear that all the cases that I considered, there was one form of giving or the other preceding the release of prosperity. Let’s look at a few of those scriptures;
Give and it shall be given unto you, good measure pressed down, shaken together, running over shall men give unto your bosom (Luke 6:38).
It is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35).
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and its righteousness and all these shall be added unto you (Matt. 6:33).
A careful study of Malachi 3:8-12 will reveal to us that the reason many Christians are struggling to succeed in life is connected to their disregard for the principle of giving.
If you truly want to prosper and be truly blessed, you must go beyond fasting and prayer to obeying the principles in the word of God as touching giving.
2 Cor. 9:6, “…He which sow sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.”

Don’t frustrate your own destiny, obey God in giving and you will be amazed the glory that will follow your life. Shalom!
