YOUR CHOICE & YOUR DESTINY (PART 1)
TEXT: Matthew 4:1-7King
James Version (KJV)
4 Then was
Jesus led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.
2 And when
he had fasted forty days and forty nights, he was afterward an hungred.
3 And when
the tempter came to him, he said, If thou be the Son of God, command that these
stones be made bread.
4 But he
answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by
every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
5 Then the
devil taketh him up into the holy city, and setteth him on a pinnacle of the
temple,
6 And saith
unto him, If thou be the Son of God, cast thyself down: for it is written, He
shall give his angels charge concerning thee: and in their hands they shall
bear thee up, lest at any time thou dash thy foot against a stone.
7 Jesus
said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.
After the birth of a man what he or she becomes in life is
often than not the result of several choices made over time. Many try to blame
their parents, the environment, the economy and the nation in which they belong
as their reason for not succeeding in life but the truth is that from the same
situation many are rising to places of greatness. Any man who failed in making
the most of precious opportunity by making the right choice at the right time
should blame no one but himself.
After Jesus fasted
for 40 days, the devil came to try to take His attention from the glory to fix
it on food since Jesus was hungry. But it did not work because Jesus was
focused, and by his reply He made us see that the word of God which the breath
of life is above our food. Most people settle for bread, what to eat, instead
of the breath of life. Jesus showed to us that spending quality time with God
consuming the word of God, basking and soaking in His glory is of great
essence.
The problem with many
of us is that we read the word just to observe a religious routine. The only
thing worse than this is that some of us do not even read it, and then we
wonder why we are confused and frustrated. Without the word, there is bound to
be confusion, because the word is a lamp and a light for direction in life.
Too many people are missing the glory even in church because
their preoccupation is the bread to eat. If you will spend quality time with
the word of God, you will begin to receive understanding; it gives light to the
naive. Do not settle for bread, go for the breath of life instead.
