MAY 7TH
TEXT: 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 King James Version (KJV)
6. But this I say, He which soweth sparingly
shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also
bountifully.
7. Every man according as he purposeth in his
heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a
cheerful giver.
The word of God is very clear on giving, but too often we
add our own interpretation to frustrate the original intention thereby making
it too burdensome for many to obey the scriptures.
There are ministers who tell their members to demonstrate
their trust in God by borrowing to give to God. But I am yet to find any
support of that position from the word of God.
Giving to the things of God is designed by the Lord to be
very simple.
God does not want us to give under pressure or out of
duress, neither does He expect us to give out of necessity or emotionally. Too
many Christians are emotional givers, they do not wait to understand and hear
from God before they give. If God has not spoken to you and you decide to give
by your emotional impulses, don’t blame God if you do not get any reward and
especially when you begin to suffer lack.
God wants us to give willingly and cheerfully, not
grudgingly. If you want to give, give only what you have the ability to. The
fact that you want to support a church or ministry, does not mean that you
should commit financial suicide thereby frustrating your business, family
finance, your education and any other aspect of your life. God expects you to
prosper in life.
The fact that you are unable to give at present does not
mean that God is angry with you, by His grace you will be able to give in the
very near future.
God knows each of us according to our several abilities and
strength. The widow who gave her mite, did so with the whole of her heart, and
what is more important than the amount she gave, is the fact that her heart was
in her giving.
The glory that accompany our obedience in giving according
to the word of God has no limit. Go after God with all your heart even when it
seem strange and you will be amazed the blessings that will follow.
