TEXT:
2 Peter 1:10-11 (AMP)
10 Because of this, brethren, be all the more solicitous and eager to make sure (to ratify, to strengthen, to make steadfast) your calling and election; for if you do this, you will never stumble or fall.
11 Thus there will be richly and abundantly provided for you entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
A careful study of this chapter from verse 1 will
reveal to us the reason for verse 10 and 11. In verse 1 Peter made it clear
that he is talking to people who have obtained a precious faith through Christ.
In verse 2 he made it clear that we have access to multiple manifestation of
the grace and peace of God through our knowledge of Christ who called us to
glory and virtue.
And verse 3 reveals to us that his divine power has given
access to all things that pertain to life and godliness and again he said this
is through the knowledge of Christ who called us to glory and virtue.
Verses 4 to
7 reveals to us that the glorious promises of Christ has made us to be
partakers of a divine nature that empowers us to escape the corruption of this
world. Yet we are encouraged to add virtue to our faith and to virtue knowledge
and to knowledge temperance and to temperance patience and to patience
godliness and to godliness brotherly kindness and to brotherly kindness
charity.
Verses 8 and 9 makes us understand that the man who has this will not
be unfruitful or barren but the one who lacks this is blind and cannot see afar
off and has forgotten he was purged from his old sins. With this understanding
it becomes clear that Peter was addressing Christians in this passage therefore
the call in verse 10 and 11 is for us Christians to become serious about running
the Christian race to the very end.
If a man wish to find excuse why he want to
remain passive in his faith there would always be those who will be there to
encourage him on that path but those who want to make it to the end will have
no pity on their flesh.
