THE WISDOM OF GOD (PART 5)

NOVEMBER. 17TH.

TEXT: John 2:1-10 King James Version (KJV)

2 And the third day there was a marriage in Cana of Galilee; and the mother of Jesus was there:

2 And both Jesus was called, and his disciples, to the marriage.

3 And when they wanted wine, the mother of Jesus saith unto him, They have no wine.

4 Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? mine hour is not yet come.

5 His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

6 And there were set there six waterpots of stone, after the manner of the purifying of the Jews, containing two or three firkins apiece.

7 Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

8 And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the governor of the feast. And they bare it.

9 When the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and knew not whence it was: (but the servants which drew the water knew;) the governor of the feast called the bridegroom,

10 And saith unto him, Every man at the beginning doth set forth good wine; and when men have well drunk, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept the good wine until now.

In life it is expected that everyone should be able to make good use of what we call “common sense”, yet there is a limit to where common sense can take you in life. In the natural, if you are very smart, common sense can help you make some progress. But to truly excel in life in an exceptional dimension, you need much more than common sense; you need the wisdom of God which often does not make sense. If you live your life by just the things that make sense you will end up with conventional results, only those who can connect with divine wisdom are able to archive extraordinary results.

In life, common sense is applied by reason of the level of understanding a man has gathered by the normal, natural experiences of life. But those who function by divine wisdom do so by the faith they have developed through deep insight from the scriptures in an intimate walk with God. In our passage for today, when Mary approached Jesus, she was not applying common sense, but an uncommon wisdom and understanding through experiential fellowship with the word of God personified in the person called Jesus. Except you have an experiential walk with the Lord, you cannot recognise the opportunities available to you like Mary did. Your access to Jesus is the greatest opportunity of your life, do everything to always make the most of this access and you will be amazed the things that will follow. It is useless for you to keep trying to fix the problem that is beyond your power. Save yourself the shame and embarrassment by asking the Lord for help.
